THERAPIES

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT)

CBT is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps people identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours that fuel emotional distress. By challenging the irrational beliefs and gradually adjusting behaviours, CBT empowers individuals to break unhelpful cycles and build healthier mental habits.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ACT

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)

ACT is a type of therapy that encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them, while also committing to actions that align with their core values. ACT combines mindfulness strategies with behavioural change to help people become more psychologically flexible, reducing suffering caused by trying to control or avoid painful experiences.
Tapping and Somatic Therapy EBEFT

SOMATIC & EFT THERAPIES (EBEFT OR TAPPING)

EFT, often referred to as ‘tapping’ is a therapeutic approach that combines elements of cognitive therapy with acupressure by tapping on specific points on the body. It’s based on the idea that negative emotions and trauma create energy blockages in the body, and tapping can help release these blockages while individuals focus on specific feelings or memories.
Somatic therapy is an approach that emphasises the connection between the mind and body in addressing emotional and psychological issues and helps to release stored tension and trauma through somatic experiencing techniques.

 FAQs

  • Therapy provides a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, concerns and feelings.

It can help you to understand what issues may be arising and helping to find strategies and approaches to address them.

If you are struggling in some way, it could be a good indication that therapy may provide some benefit.

It can help you to understand that you have the control to improve your situation.

It can help to uncover your strengths, improve your relationships, learn new skills, overcome challenges and to be able to develop a positive outlook of yourself and your life.

  • At your initial appointment, Fabienne will work with you to understand your personal circumstances, difficulties, and challenges. This is achieved by asking specific questions, which will help her to understand you and your current and previous circumstances.

Fabienne will then work with you and recommend a plan to move forwards.

The session will be done in a safe and relaxed manner. Everything discussed in the session is kept highly confidential.

  • Each session runs 50 minutes.

The cost is $195 per session ($180 concession).

You may be able to receive rebates from Medicare (with a plan from your GP) or Private Health.

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended fee for a 50min appointment is $311.

  • This is very variable and dependent on the needs and goals of the individual.

Some people will resolve their issues in a small number of sessions; whilst others will have long-term goals and needs where they may wish to work on things on an ongoing basis.

It is worth discussing during the session at your initial appointment to help get guidance on the frequency and length of the appointments.

  • Not at all.

You can see Fabienne and pay privately.

Alternatively, if you have private health insurance and your provider offers partial rebates for psychology in the coverage, then you may be able to claim part of the sessions with them. It is worth discussing this with your insurance company.

If you wish to claim a rebate from Medicare, you will require a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. Under a MHCP you are eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year.

  • Yes, absolutely.

If you have a MHCP addressed to another provider, you don’t need to visit your GP in order to change the plan details. Just bring the plan to your initial appointment and Fabienne will write to your referring doctor advising them that she is now looking after your care needs.

  • You can receive up to 10 sessions per calendar year from Medicare.

Your GP will normally issue a plan with 6 sessions initially. At that 6th session, Fabienne will write a review to them and they can request a further 4 sessions in the same calendar year.

  • So long as there is at least one session left on your plan, you will be able to use it for an appointment.

Mental health care plans don’t expire and it is based on the number of appointments in a calendar year.

However, you do need to return to your GP for a review at the end of every set of sessions (after the 6th and 10th).

If you are uncertain how many appointments are left on the plan, you can call Medicare.

  • The current rebate from Medicare for 2024-2025 is $96.65.

This rebate can be put through at the time of payment with reception.

  • If your private health insurance company offers psychology as one of their benefits then you can claim a partial rebate for the session.

It is worth investigating this with your insurance company prior to the first session.

We can either provide a paid invoice for you to submit to your insurer or we can put the claim through at the time of paying for the appointment for an immediate rebate.

  • Yes, definitely!

Video and Phone Telehealth appointments are available upon request.

For video, Fabienne will send you a link prior to the appointment for you to click on with no setup required by you. It is a highly secure and confidential video conference through her practice software. Super simple!

Alternatively, phone consults can be offered and Fabienne will call you at the appointment time. Please note: no caller ID may show up on your phone.

Please be somewhere quiet and private (with good internet connectivity, if applicable) for your session.

  • Absolutely.

You can choose the location to suit your schedule. If you wish to go between either location at any stage that is perfectly fine. There is complete flexibility.

  • You can either book online through the link on this page or by calling 07 3368 1300.
